CUPREX Standard powder is a covering agent for copper alloys. It provides the melt with oxidising conditions. The products can be used for copper alloys containing tin and nickel such as red brass, tin bronze, lead bronze (with less than 10 % lead), phosphor bronze and copper-nickel alloys such as Monel. CUPREX Standard forms a liquid slag that can be thickened with SLAX 20 if required.
Benefits
During the use of CUPREX, an oxidising atmosphere is formed above the melt which is maintained for the duration of the melting process. By providing oxidising conditions, hydrogen absorption by the melt is limited. Subsequent deoxidation with DEOX tubes leads to a clean melt, low in gas content.
CUPREX 14 BL has been specially developed to be environmentally friendly in both use and handling.
Application
All CUPREX products can be added to the hot, empty furnace with the metal charge
being placed on top. Alternatively CUPREX Standard can be added as a
powder together with the charge.
Crucible care
Always carefully clean any residues from crucible walls before refilling to get the best lifetime of Foseco crucibles.
Addition Rate
CUPREX Standard: 0.5 - 1.0 % of the metal weight
As the required addition rates depend to a great extent on the prevailing foundry conditions (melting type, metal) only approximate addition rates are indicated. As a rule, less is needed than the quantities listed above.
Technical Data
Suitable for copper alloys containing tin and nickel such as red brass, tin bronze, lead bronze (with less than 10 % lead), phosphor bronze and copper-nickel alloys such as Monel.
Application temperature: all normal melting temperatures
